The Monaco Blue Initiative becomes partner of the Sustainable Ocean Initiative of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
This Initiative aims at facilitating and accelerating the achievement of the Aïchi targets related to marine biodiversity, as set in Nagoya in october 2010.
Target 11 deals with the development of terrestrial and marine protected areas:
By 2020, at least 17 percent of terrestrial and inland water, and 10 percent of coastal and marine areas, especially areas of particular importance for biodiversity and ecosystem services, are conserved through effectively and equitably managed, ecologically representative and well connected systems of protected areas and other effective area-based conservation measures, and integrated into the wider landscape and seascapes.
The Monaco Blue Initiative will contribute, by its works, to promoting the creation of Marine Protected Areas worldwide.
The Sustainable Ocean Initiative will meet in Yeosu on 5th June. Its works will be coordinated with the Monaco Blue Initiative and experise will be shared.
